All American Apple Pie

 

1 cup sugar
2 Tablespoons flour
½ teaspoon cinnamon
¼ teaspoon nutmeg
¼ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon lemon juice
5 -6 cups apples, thinly sliced
2 Tablespoons butter/margarine
Pastry for 2 crust (9 inch) pie

Combine sugar, flour, spices, salt and lemon juice.   Add apples, toss to mix.  Roll out pastry, line pie plate with pastry.  Add apple mixture and dot with butter/margarine.  Adjust top crust with vents cut near the center.  Brush the top crust with a little milk and sprinkle with sugar.  Seal rim of crust  by pressing together (use a fork or your fingers) and flute around the pie.

Bake at 450 degree oven for 10 minutes then lower temperature to 350 degrees and continue baking about 40 minutes more.
