Mother Up for Calves

An inexpensive MOTHER-UP for cattle is plain old Vicks Vapo-Rub….or the generic brand.  They both work due to the smell of the menthol in the.  Rub some on the back of the calf, around it’s ears, and around the tail…then, put as much as you can on the cow’s nose and up her nose (this will require a chute)  If possible, put them in a dark pen in the back corner of the barn.

CALF FEEDING SUGGESTION

If a calf is reluctant to take a bottle, put some molasses or syrup on the nipple with your fingers….put a little bit of the sweet stuff in the calf’s mouth and they go right to sucking.  ( would work for baby lambs or goats too)
