Electrolyte Mix for Baby Calves

This formula is for baby calves/lambs/ goats  with upset stomach and diarrhea.

1 package fruit pactin (Sure-Jell or Pen-Jell)

2 teaspoons baking soda

10 ounces of warm water mixed with 4 chicken bouillon cubes or 4 teaspoons of powdered bouillion

1 teaspoon plain salt

Mix well, it foams up a lot so use a big bowl.  Let the foam go down and then add 2 quarts of warm water.  Administer WITHOUT milk for at least 3 days and then gradually introduce the milk again.

Baby lambs or goats get 8-16 ounces per feeding, 3 times a day.  Baby calves get 1 quart of mix 2 or 3 times a day.

If the animal does not show improvement within 24 to 36 hours you need to contact your veterinarian.

If you don’t use all of this mix, just put in the refrigerator until next feeding.  Warm it in a pan of warm water in the sink though, do not use the microwave.
