Oatmeal Bread

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Soak 1 pkg. yeast and 1 teaspoon sugar in ¼ cup lukewarm water.

Pour 2 cups boiling water over:

1 cup oatmeal

1 Tablespoon salt

2 Tablespoons lard or shortening

Cover and  let stand until lukewarm. Add ½ cup milk and ½ cup brown sugar and the yeast mixture. 

Put in enough flour (I used 3 ½ - 4 cups) to make a thick dough. Let rise until double. 

Then work down and form into 2 loaves,  place loaves in greased/sprayed bread pans. 

Let rise and bake 45-50 minutes in 350 degree oven.
