Christmas Morning Casserole

16 slices white bread, crusts removed
ham, thinly sliced (about 1/2 lb or 16 slices)
grated cheddar cheese (about 1/2 lb)
6 eggs
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 to 1 tsp dry mustard
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
dash of hot sauce, optional
3 C milk
1/2 tsp pepper
1/4 C minced onion
1/2 C red and/or green pepper, chopped
1/3 C butter
1 C crushed Corn Flakes (or Special K)

Lay eight slices of bread into a 9 x 13-inch buttered, glass baking dish. Cover bread with sliced ham.  Spread with grated cheddar cheese and then cover with remaining slices of bread. In a bowl, beat eggs, salt, dry mustard, Worcestershire sauce, optional hot sauce and milk. Pour over the casserole.  Sprinkle black pepper, onions and peppers evenly over surface. Cover and refrigerate overnight.  In the morning, melt the butter and drizzle over top. Sprinkle with crushed cornflakes. Bake uncovered for one hour at 350 degrees.  Let stand for ten minutes before serving.
