Pecan Upside down Cake

½ cup butter (one stick) melted

½ cup brown sugar (packed)

¼ cup dark corn syrup

1 ½ cup pecan halves

1 package butter pecan cake mix (18 ¼ oz size)

1 cup sour cream

1/3 cup unsweetened applesauce

2 eggs

2 egg whites

 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

In a small bowl, combine the butter, brown sugar, corn syrup and pecans.  Spread evenly into a sprayed/greased  9x 13” pan. 

In a large bowl, combine the remaining ingredients and beat with a mixer on low speed for 30 seconds.  Beat on medium 2 minutes.  Transfer to prepared pan.  Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.  Cool for 5 minutes before inverting onto a serving platter.  Serve warm or room temperature.
